Back To The Future Fans were fooled on 27 June 2012 believing it to be the real Future Date when Doc Brown played by (Christopher Lloyd) sets the DeLorean time machine to June 27, 2012 as the futuristic date and the characters Doc and Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) travel via their time-machine car to June 27, 2012 from October 26, 1985 in the classic 1985 sci-fi film Back to the Future. But that turned out to be a wrong date.
A lot of people fell for it, including Facebook geek favorite, George Takei.
The Real Future Date is revealed in the sequel, Back To The Future II, and it’s set for October 21, 2015 as you can see in the video below:
"We are now a day AFTER the future," Takei wrote in a note above a photo showing the DeLorean's dashboard set to go from OCT 26 1985 to JUN 27 2012. "LIKE and SHARE if you get this," the former "Star Trek" actor suggested and he got a little more than 61,000 of his Facebook army have liked the post already.
The Fake Date was posted by Steve Berry, the man behind the hoax and the social media manager for mobile checkout company Simply Tap, on Wednesday and he said that the viral incident was “just an accident.” He designed the image to promote the Back to the Future trilogy Blu-ray box set for Client.
In the past as well the Internet has been fooled by same hoax. In 2010, a Photoshopped image with July 05, 2010 as the date of the future circulated the web posted by the movie site TotalFilm.com which tweeted a bogus image using the date July 5, 2010 claiming that date as "Back to the Future Day." Total Film later admitted to the hoax.
Here’s how Twitter users reacted on the Facebook Post
The hoax caused a lot of funny reaction online, including this witty tweet from comedian Richard Herring: "Didn't this Back to the Future hoax happen once before? I am getting a sense of deja vu. But maybe that was on a different timeline."

So...there are some vicious lies swirling about the Twittervurse tonight. In Back to the Future II, they travel to the year 2015. Not 2012.

Wakey495 added: 'Todays date is when marty mcfly traveled back to the future. We don't have hover boards yet ..... What a let down.'
That awkward moment when you find out today is the 'future' from Back to the Future, and you want to know where your Hoverboard is.
That Back To The Future date thing? It's a crappy photoshop. Marty and the Doc went to 2015. #bttf
The Back to the Future date is not until October 2015. Watch the film and see for yourself, don't be fooled! Oh, and it's not real.
on the 21st of October 2015 I'm going to have a massive back to the future party
By the way part timers, Doc Brown and Marty never went to 2012 in Back to the Future... That photo is made up
Genius behind the "back to the future" hoax so many people fell for it #suckers
