Social media has attracted a big bunch of celebrities from across the globe that are spread on channels such as Facebook, Twitter and now Google+. For celebs – big and small – social media has become the ideal platform to promote themselves, their personal brands, causes, and give updates on their lives to an eager fan base. Social media has, in fact, been the best medium for them to go all out there and “get it”

This post will help you sieve through the assemblage of celebs crowding the social space as we pick only the most active and popular ones. Read on…

Celebs on Facebook

Megan Fox: Okay, she needs no introduction so I’ll come straight to the point. This hottie is an active member of Facebook and frequently updates her page with a lot of interesting details about herself and happenings related to her. Check out here page here. We especially like “Things you can’t do with your face when you have Botox” photo album.

Lady Gaga: Her customfacebook page serves most users with some backlinks to her albums and interactive pages. (Lady Gaga’s Page). She’s pretty popular on the social media scene. Lately, a Facebook scam reported that she was found dead in a hotel room, which of course was fully rubbished.

Justin Bieber: This kid’s definitely taking his singing skills to the social media landscape and perhaps Facebook’s his most favorite. If you’re a fan, you must check out his page (Justin Bieber’s Page) which he keeps updated with his visits and concert details. He also keeps himself busy by staying involved with fans directly.

Chistiano Ronaldo: This celebrity is one eye candy and uses FB as a medium to share his training schedules and success stories with others. (Cristiano Ronaldo’s Page) The football star has an incredible 2.9 million fans on his page, even though he joined only sometime mid last year!

Celebs on Twitter

On Twitter, there are many (read many many!) celebs out there who are obsessed and attention hungry and are only abusing the medium. Of course, we won’t go that far and list them but those active on Twitter may already get the drift as to who these guys could be. Thankfully, Twitter also has a gang of celebs who are witty, thoughtful and entertaining.

Steve Martin– For comic relief, Steve Martin is definitely your man. Surprisingly though, while he is very-active, he is not here to spread a few jokes. He spends a lot of time replying to people. That sprinkled with his trademark hilarious style makes him one cool winner. And believe me, he’s pretty crazy too!

Tom Hanks: joined Twitter only early this year but since then he’s seen a 666% increase in buzz so far. He even took part in a viral video campaign urging the Pulitzer Board to give the Onion a Pulitzer Prize. Besides this, he even gave a boost to the Los Angeles Police Department's "Carmageddon" media strategy, warning his 2.2 million Twitter followers to avoid the 405 closure.

Diablo Cody– Brook Busey, better known by the pen name Diablo Cody, is an American screenwriter, writer, blogger, journalist, and author. This eccentric celeb and ex-stripper is far from inhibited and one of those Twitterers who will tell-all to her fans about all that’s going on in her life. We kinda like that!

Celebs on Google+

Britney Spears: Is this the femme fatale herself (or her management) posting tour news to Google+? Even though the profile claims to be original, we have a few doubts. It links to Britney's official Twitter account, Tumblr, Website and YouTube channel. But those sites aren't linking back to Google+, so that’s why the doubt. But worth checking out, we still maintain.

Felicia Day: Besides appearing on TV series, Day is also a writer, producer and star of the popular web series “The Guild”. She has around 219551 people in her friend circles and stays in touch with them with regular posts, photos and buzzes. Check her out here

Ashton Kutcher: was the heartthrob of “That 70’s Show” and replaced Charlie Sheen on “Two and a half men”. He is a big buzz on social media. Kutcherrecently joined Google+ too and wrote “google+ needs to be able to collapse comments to posts in stream”. Listening Google+?

He is also currently engaged in a heated Twitter warwith Digital Brothel.

Why should celebrities take social media seriously?

With social media, celebrities can speak directly to the public. Period. A great way to manage your reputation. If a situation goes out of hand or they are involved in a controversy, social media helps them to stay ahead of the game & speak directly their fans, bloggers, journos and do their part to keep matters sorted.

What more? It humanizes a celebrity. Perhaps, the most important reason why we see so many of them out there. They’re tired of their ‘star’ status and want to be treated normally.

Good-to-know

  • Demi Moore and Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) help stop a suicide by responding to a distress message.
  • Director Kevin Smith gets thrown off a Southwest Air flight for which he was already seated. Why? Because he was apparently “too fat”. He tweets about it to his 1.6M Twitter followers and creates a PR nightmare for the airline, causing them to issue an apology.
