Facebook and Microsoft have joined hands with Bing, the browser that would give more of personalized results based on what user’s network friends are searching for. Bing will allow searches to view results generated by user’s Facebook friends’ use of the ‘Like’ button on the global network.
At a press conference held at Microsoft’s headquarters located in Silicon Valley, Qi Lu, president of Microsoft Online Services, and Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the joint venture between the two giants. Microsoft’s Qi Lu said, "We want to make social people first-class citizens of the search experience."
Bing head Yusuf Mehdi said that Microsoft will roll out the new social feature soon for the users. The Bing users will be able to use the pop-up that will show on the right-hand corner of the screen to link their Bing Account to their Facebook profile. This means that if the user chooses not to go for the mentioned option, their Bing search page will not show the Facebook’s like-button-based results. Moreover, the users can also delete Bing from their Facebook applications to eliminate the search-based data. A reminder from Microsoft will pop-up before the users choose to delete the content.
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg said, “"What makes Microsoft exciting for us is that they are the underdog. When you are an incumbent in an area, no matter how smart you are, there's always tension between innovating on new things and preserving what you have."
