Apple is building the coolest office building ever in Cuptertino, CA. Steve Jobs himself went to a Cupertino City Council meeting a couple months ago to seal the deal.

Cupertino released more detailed plans about the project on the city’s website. Known as “Apple Campus 2″, the project will be built on a 175 acre area near the 280 highway. The total building will be approximately 2.8 million square feet,

What’s so special about this Apple Campus?

The Spaceship will feature a 1,000 seat auditorium (perfect for all but Apple’s biggest events), a fitness center, 300,000 square feet of research facilities, a power plant, and underground parking. But all of that sounds boring, what you really need to see is what it looks like: a giant, flying saucer-like loop.

It will house over 12,000 employees in one massive building.

The four-storey doughnut-shaped building features walls of glass that lets employees look out from both sides of the ring onto park-like landscaping adorned with 6,000 trees. The project may get completed somewhere in 2015.

The City of Cupertino is still in the middle of its review process for Apple's proposed designs, which includes an environmental impact assessment that analyzes issues of traffic, noise, and air quality surrounding the project. Following that, the proposal faces developmental review and public hearings before Apple can start cooking its architectural donut.

That said, it's extremely likely that plans for Apple's new campus are going to sail through their various review processes with universal acceptance.

"There is no chance that we're saying no," said Cupertino Mayor Gilbert Wong in a June press conference. "This mothership really has landed here in Cupertino."
